This was my view from my seat in the Royal Botanic Gardens in Port-of-Spain last Saturday afternoon, at a very lovely public reading event by the Adult Literacy Tutors Association of Trinidad and Tobago (ALTA TT.) There were readings by some members of their programme and established writers. It was a fun way to spend an afternoon, let me tell you.
Some of these writers, the established ones, I had heard about. Some I had not. Some people are natural storytellers, and I totally envy them.
Would definitely attend one of these things again, though I wish there would be one closer to home. Also, I can’t recall having been to this part of the Gardens before though my mother insisted that I had. I don’t know why that did not stick.
In other news, I have a story coming out on Monday (FIYAH, “Hair” Issue) and I am beyond thrilled. March and April this year is going great. This is a fun little story that I was really excited to write because the story gripped me and refused to let go.
I have not been writing as much these days though. It’s almost as if post-vacation, getting back into the groove has been impossible. I can’t even exercise. Okay that might just be laziness. I hope it clears up for Camp NaNoWriMo. I’ve changed the project twice now though.
I have been listening to short stories on podcasts from Apex, Clarkesworld, Escape Pod, PodCastle and Lightspeed. I get easily distracted so it’s hard to listen to anything except when I’m driving. Buuut, this means I’ve been working my way through some of my TBR pile. Maybe I can try out audiobooks.
